Marco Island voters reject City Council pay raises, change to mayor title
Two amendments to Marco Island’s charter landed with a thud Tuesday. Voters resoundingly voted against two charter changes:
-
Granting raises for City Council and instituting an annual adjustment based on the cost-of-living increase that goes to city employees. No votes: 2,401, or 61 % of the vote; Yes: 1,555, or 39%.
- Changing the titles of the two heads of its government from chairman and vice-chairman to mayor and vice-mayor.
The disapproval was less pronounced, but still definite: No: 2,135, or 54% of those voting; yes: 1,807 – 46% of the voters.
