New farmers market location

Vasarely: The Absolute Eye

Frank Stewart’s Nexus: An American Photographer’s Journey

Frank Stewart, a graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago and student of Garry Winogrand, served as assistant and photographer to the artist Romare Bearden for the filming of the documentary Two Centuries of Black American Art. His photographic works include music greats at Jazz at Lincoln Center, and life around the world. Also on exhibition, “Botanical Revolution” from artist Tamara Kostianovsky uses textiles to create sculptures that reference humankind’s connections to nature in the forms of birds, tree stumps, plants and cow carcasses. Ebbets in the Everglades
9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays through Jan. 20 at Museum of the Everglades, 105 W. Broadway Ave., Everglades City. We all know at least one Charles C. Ebbets photograph: that of construction workers sitting on an I-beam high above New York to eat their lunch. National Bird Day

Forest bathing at Rookery Bay

Forest bathing led by a certified forest bathing guide from Go Forest Bathing along the Snail Trail at the Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center. A slow, quiet, guided sensory experience with nature that has proven physical and mental health benefits, forest bathing will be offered the first Saturday of the month from October through April. Lights! Camera! Everglades!

Most people don’t know county founder Barron Collier envisioned Everglades City as a filming location for major motion pictures—and even had a soundstage built there. This talk works with the museum’s current exhibit featuring Florida movie posters, so visitors can see the exhibit and then hear Museum of the Everglades manager Thomas Lockyear discuss Hollywood films made here. Those include the 1957 classic Wind Across the Everglades, the first major movie with an environmental theme, the Joe Pesci/Danny Glover comedy Gone Fishin’, David Carradine’s moonshiner melodrama Thunder and Lightning and more.
