Collier County celebrates its roots at Everglades City ceremony
A wild and sparsely settled territory that was kicked around among three other Florida counties won its own name, Collier County, 100 years ago May 8. Last Monday, several hundred residents celebrated that birth in a speech-filled ceremony on the steps of the City Hall of Everglades City, its first county seat.
